tonight's practice 3/13/2020

Good afternoon everyone. USA Swimming is encouraging all swimming activities to be put on hold beginning this weekend due to the outbreak. With that being said, we will have 1 more practice before going on break tonight. Tonight's practice will be the last practice of the winter season. Originally the practice was to be from 5:30pm to 7pm for the Junior, Junior Elite, and Senior groups. The coaches have talked and we are going to have practice 5:30pm to 6:30pm for all groups (Novice, Junior, Junior Elite, and Senior groups). We want to have a fun practice. We want everyone to enjoy each others company, smile, and have fun. So lets get together one more time to have fun with one another, to comfort and lean on one another, and to enjoy ourselves with one another.

I hope to see as many of you at practice tonight. Please take your mesh bags home with you if you typically leave it in the dryland room.

message from coach danny

keep your head and spirits up!!!

Good afternoon everyone. I know many of the swimmers and parents are upset, angry, and beside themselves with meets being canceled (Junior Olympics) and the possibility of others. I ask that we take a look at the season as a whole right now. If the world was literally to end at 2pm today, would your swimmer have had a good season? Did your swimmer do best times or new events they have never done before? Did they find the love and passion to becoming the swimmer they didn't think they can become? Have they matured throughout the year not just in the pool, but in school, home, and in the real world?
I spent most of last night pacing around my house thinking of the season thus far (got about 4 hours of sleep). While I looked at the times throughout the season, compared them from March of 2019 to March of 2020, how much time droppage occurred, new events competed in, race splits, average yardage done by practice, etc. etc. etc.,I stopped and threw about 25 pages of data away. I began to look at everything threw a parent's and swimmer's eye.  Seeing the swimmers work hard day-in and day-out not to  have a chance to truly showcase all that work is heart breaking. It can be demoralizing. At practice last night, we made sure to talk to all of the swimmers (regardless of group) and inform them that we will continue to train as if nothing is going on in the world and meets are still on. All the kids smiled knowing we weren't going to let anything hinder our success. They worked hard. They smiled and were laughing and high fiving one another.
What's occurring in the world (not just in Jersey), is serious, but if we use common sense precautions, I believe everything will work itself out. Some basic precautions we can take would be to consistently wash our hands. Try our best not to touch our eyes, nose, or face in public. Please cough or sneeze into you elbow. If you are not feeling well, stay home (if possible which is never possible).

new team communication app

instateam app

We will also be using a new team communication app. We will be using the InstaTeam App. Please go to your app store and download the app. You will then create an account using an email and a password of your choosing. InstaTeam will send you an email confirming your email is valid. Open the app and press continue. You will then press the 'Add Team' button. Type 'ASEAFG' and click join (you can also look for RONIN Aquatics). Please enter both email and phone number. These will be used to send out notifications easier and faster than the Remind App. They will ideally go straight to your phone.

2019-2020 meet schedule

Tentative Meet Schedule has been emailed and posted on the team website under 'meet info' tab. Please take a minute to look and inform me as soon as you can if you are not able to attend any of the competitions. We maybe adding 1 or 2 duals meets to our schedule. Those dates and times will be posted when they are confirmed.

sport spot (new team vendor)

We will be using Sport Spot (located 660 broad st Shrewsbury, NJ) as our team vendor from now on. They will be doing a team fitting Saturday Sept 14th at Ranney at 9am. You can purchase all of your training and racing needs (fins, paddles, snorkels, boards, team suit, caps, bags, and parka jackets) from them. They will also be housing all of our training equipment, team suit, tech suits, and caps in store as well. Just to reiterate one thing. We are a TYR sponsored swim team. We need to be completely outfitted in TYR gear. All team racing suits, caps, and tech suits must be TYR (NO EXCEPTIONS). When we are at swim meets, only RONIN team apparel will be allowed. No other team apparel (high school, summer swim team, or any other organization) will be worn at meets. We are there representing one another, parents, ourselves, and the team. We can lose our sponsorship and discounts that we receive on equipment, gear, suits, if we are not wearing TYR products. Our team suits for the females come in several strap/backings that will allow for proper support regardless of body type. At practice, swimmers are allowed to wear any suit as long as it is not another club teams apparel. We will also be going through AdPro to get our sweat shirts, t-shirts, sweat pants, team towels, and baseball hats. Order forms will be posted shortly when I receive them from either shops.

team mentorship program

We are starting a Mentorship program at RONIN. Any swimmer in our Senior, Presenior, and Junior Elite groups looking for community service hours can achieve them by mentoring our younger swimmers in the Junior and Novice groups. Swimmers in these groups will be given the option to assist the coaches in the Novice and/or Junior group during practices. They can assist by demonstrating, relay commands from the coaches, giving positive and helpful reinforcement, and be roles models. This will allow our swimmers to interact with one another and create strong bonds. I know this will allow our team to become closer and tighter than ever before. The same fun and love many of our swimmers experience during the summers on there summer rec teams will be achieved with this program. Any questions or concerns, please let me know and we will go from there.

USA SWIMMING HAS CREATED A MINOR ATHLETE ABUSE PROVENTION POLICY. THE POLICY STIPULATES GUIDELINES IN WHICH ADULTS (18 AND OVER) MUST FOLLOW WHEN INTERACTING WITH MINORS (17 AND UNDER). THE POLICY IS LOCATED IN OUR TEAM HANDBOOK ON PAGE 20. IT IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE TEAM FORMS SECTION OF THE TEAM WEBSITE AND BELOW. ALL PARENTS, COACHES, AND SWIMMERS MUST REVIEW THE POLICY. ON THE 2019-2020 REGISTRATION FORM, A NEW SECTION WAS ADDED TO STATE THAT THE POLICY WAS REVIEWED BY ADULT AND MINOR(S) AND REQUIRES THE SIGNATURES OF ADULT AND MINOR(S).

RONIN(ro-nin) - A Samurai who serves the needs of the community instead of the needs of one individual.

It is a privilege, NOT a right to be a member of RONIN AQUATICS. Swimmers and families maybe dismissed from the program at any time without cause.

RONIN AQUATICS will be conducting open tryouts for the swim team throughout the year. Anyone interested should contact Coach Danny Asencio at roninaquatics@gmail.com or at 973-819-2464.
